The Government Accountability Office found that less than 3 percent of pharmacies and other entities eligible to collect unused prescription drugs participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) drug take-back programs, and the low participation was primarily due to high costs and confusion over compliance with federal regulations.
