Democratic primary candidate Mike Bloomberg proposes to allow just one patent for each drug and biologic to stop companies from delaying generic competition by overlapping patents that can number in the several dozen. Bloomberg’s proposal, released Monday (Jan. 27), also would require drug companies to pay royalties to the National Institutes of Health when they rely on NIH research.
