WellPoint QHP Enrollment Nearly 170,000 Above Projections

WellPoint CEO Joseph Swedish announced in a Wednesday (July 30) earnings call that the insurer's enrollment in the public health insurance exchanges was at 769,000 by the end of the second business quarter, far more than the 600,000 projected earlier this year. The company also added 446,000 Medicaid lives to its rolls due to the expansion and other factors, resulting in revised estimates of 500,00-600,000 new Medicaid enrollees in 2014 including 400,000 to 500,000 from the expansion.
