Trump Administration Takes Credit For ACA Premium Drop, But Others Disagree

The average premium for Affordable Care Act benchmark plans will drop 1.5 percent for 2019, making 2019 the first year that premiums have fallen since Obamacare took effect in 2014. CMS said the reduction was “a direct result” of the Trump administration’s efforts to stabilize the individual market, but many health care experts said it was due to insurers overcompensating after the administration cut off their cost-sharing reduction payments for 2018.
