Republican and Democratic lawmakers are supporting heightened scrutiny of artificial intelligence chatbots that sometimes pose as therapists and mental health professionals, including investigations by the Federal Trade Commission, in part because of multiple high-profile cases where minors have allegedly committed suicide after interacting with chatbots.
