Democratic Victories Could Lead to Virginia Medicaid Expansion

Virginia could be the next state to expand Medicaid following Democratic victories in that state's off-year elections. The state's GOP-led state legislature repeatedly blocked outgoing Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe from expanding Medicaid, but Democrats on Tuesday (Nov. 7) won back the House of Delegates, and they retained the executive. In addition to electing a Democratic Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General, the Virginia House of Delegates picked up 14 Democratic seats, giving the Democrats a one-delegate majority.
