The year-end omnibus spending deal unveiled Tuesday (Dec. 20) includes myriad provisions from Sens. Patty Murray (D-WA) and Richard Burr’s (R-NC) pandemic preparedness legislation, including a measure that would require presidential nominees to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention be confirmed by the Senate beginning in 2025. The legislative package also contains other CDC reforms, coming as the agency faces continued criticism for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
