HHS Clarifies EMTALA Abortion Protection, But Offers Little Added Support

HHS on Monday (July 11) published guidance restating its view that the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act preempts state abortion bans when the procedure is needed for emergency care, and it warned that hospitals and doctors not heeding the law could be kicked out of Medicare.
