CMS Tells Suppliers It May Phase In Resumption Of Medicare Audits

Facing pushback from stakeholders, CMS has signaled it will phase in its resumption of Recovery Audit Contractor and other audits instead of starting all of them on Aug. 3 as recently announced, an industry lobby group says. Hospital officials have complained that CMS’ decision to resume the audits could reignite problems with the Medicare appeals system, and key stakeholders have said providers lack the bandwidth to deal with audits and the pandemic.
