CMS Asks How Hospitals Interested In Rural Demo Are Affected By Closures

CMS is asking hospitals applying to participate in the extension of the Rural Community Hospital Demonstration to explain how rural hospital closures have affected them, and whether the applicants are filling gaps left by the closure of other hospitals. The agency says that it expects the application process for the demonstration to be competitive, and, as law permits, it will consider the impact of hospital closures in a state when choosing providers to participate.
