Anti-LGBTQ+ Discrimination Bill Clears House, But Senate Fate Uncertain

The House passed legislation Thursday (Feb. 25) to effectively scrap a Trump administration rule that didn’t recognize gender identity discrimination under the umbrella of sex discrimination in the Affordable Care Act’s Section 1557. The bill’s fate in the Senate is uncertain. The Democratic-backed Equality Act, H.R. 5, says discrimination includes gender identity and sexual orientation discrimination and prohibits that discrimination in all establishments used by the public, including health care, employment and housing settings.
