Study: Seniors On Medicare Face More Health-Related Financial Barriers Than Those In Other Countries

American seniors are sicker than their counterparts in other countries and, despite Medicare coverage, face more financial barriers to health care compared to those in 10 other high-income countries. A Health Affairs study funded by the Commonwealth Fund found 23 percent of elderly Americans had not visited a doctor when sick, skipped a recommended test or had not filled a prescription due to the costs.
