Over half of rural hospitals could be at high risk of closure if a public health care option is enacted, according to a new analysis funded by a coalition opposed to Medicare for All and similar policies. The report argues that a public option would lower hospital reimbursement rates, and the more patients that shifted off higher-paying commercial plans to public plans, the more financial distress rural hospitals would face.
