This is the second update of the original posting. The Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics product, Rho (D) Immune Globulin (Human), RhoGAM, was originally listed as containing 9 milligrams of mercury in each dose. Information about West Nile Virus and Blood Safety

Background

The ongoing outbreak of West Nile virus (WNV) infections in the United States has raised concern that WNV could be transmitted through blood transfusion. No cases of WNV attributed to transfusion of blood or blood products have been reported to date in the United States or elsewhere. Available data indicate a theoretical, albeit small, risk of WNV transmission from transfusion of blood.
