The House Ways and Means Committee today (Aug. 16) released a recent letter from CMS Administrator Tom Scully, in which the agency chief signals strong support for making competitive bidding for durable medical equipment (DME) a permanent part of Medicare. The House-passed Medicare reform bill includes a provision that would allow DME suppliers to competitively bid for contracts with CMS.

Three weeks ago, we asked the Department of Justice to pursue a criminal investigation of Metabolife - whether they made false statements to FDA regarding the existence of adverse event reports.
