HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson today announced a series of grants totaling more than $30 million to increase the number of qualified nurses and the quality of nursing services across the country. The awards will help to ease the shortage of nurses available to provide essential health care services across the country.

The Conference Committee Report retains essential provisions of the Senate bill, including the expanded use of a preferred drug list and the negotiation of supplemental rebates, provisions that are expected to save the state millions of dollars and help to avoid harsh cuts in the state's pharmaceutical assistance programs.
