HHS APPROVES PENNSYLVANIA'S REQUEST TO EXPAND MEDICAID TO WORKING INDIVIDUALS WITH A DISABILITY

HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson today announced approval of a Pennsylvania plan to allow people with disabilities who return to work to retain their Medicaid coverage -- removing a key barrier that will allow more disabled Pennsylvanians to lead productive lives.

CMS today released its Wall Street analysis of the financial and market performance of acute care hospitals, concluding that the hospital industry "shows signs of recovery and stabilization, but continued cost pressures loom on the horizon." While the forecast of for-profit hospitals "is the brightest it has been in years," nonprofit hospitals are not faring as well. Strong nonprofit hospitals are getting stronger, the report says, and weak organizations, weaker. The financial analysis is the third in a series of such reports being undertaken by the agency.
