States Prep For Opioid Law’s Provisions On Drug Utilization, IMD Funding

State Medicaid programs soon will be required to implement stricter controls around opioid prescriptions and will also gain the option to more easily access federal money to care for beneficiaries with substance use disorders in large inpatient treatment centers. Both provisions take effect Oct. 1 and are part of the SUPPORT Act, the major opioid law that Congress passed last year.
