Specialty medical societies criticize CMS for ignoring a requirement to make Medicare claims data available to researchers and medical societies. The agency didn't implement the regulation because researchers already have access to claims data using other means, but the Physician Clinical Registry Coalition says CMS is overlooking the primary use of claims data: to give providers fast feedback on their performance.
