HHS OIG To Review Telehealth Medicare Reimbursement

HHS Office of Inspector General recently announced its first review of Medicare payments for telehealth services and checking up on providers who bill Medicare for that care. Telehealth services only resulted in $17.6 million in Medicare reimbursement in 2015, but due to strict regulations surrounding telemedicine, the OIG could discover the misuse of those services -- and experts are unsure what this could mean for the future of telehealth.
