ACOs Leaving That Model Could Shift To Direct Provider Contracting, Bundled Pay

CMS innovation center director Adam Boehler on Thursday (Aug. 30) suggested accountable care organizations opting not to participate in the overhauled Medicare Shared Savings Program could pursue other value-based care avenues, including a direct-provider contracting initiative or bundled pay. He also said he would ideally like to "banish" fee-for-service as a pay model for primary care, and value-based care is not the same thing as taking on risk.
