FDA Approves First Pill With Ingestible Sensor

FDA has approved the first drug in the United States embedded with an ingestible sensor that records when the medication is taken, the agency announced Monday (Nov. 13). The pill, Abilify's MyCite, is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia, however, the sensor's manufacturer also recently touted the technology as a way to help physicians measure pain and ensure proper dosage of prescribed opioids, and added that the company is working to create a "digital opioid."
