AMA Open To Discussing Mandatory Education For Opioid Prescribers

The American Medical Association told Inside Health Policy it is open to discussing the idea of mandatory opioid prescriber education tied to DEA registration as endorsed by several FDA advisers earlier this month, coming after the group raised objections to mandatory training. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) also recently pressed the group to support proposals to mandate continuing education and require that physicians check prescription drug monitoring programs prior to prescribing opioids.
