The World Health Organization has identified the first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a human to be fatal and to not come from direct contact with an infected animal, the global agency announced this week, coming after the United States recently ordered nearly 5 million vaccines in preparation for a possible more wide-ranging outbreak.
