The United States and the United Kingdom are laying the groundwork for a major shift in pharmaceutical trade, announcing plans Friday (May 9) to negotiate “significantly preferential” tariff treatment for medicines and ingredients as part of a deal announced this week -- though any concrete reductions will hinge on the U.S. Commerce Department’s section 232 national security investigation into pharmaceutical imports.
