Sanders, Cassidy-Led Health Panel Expected To Maintain Productive Dynamic

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) plans to take the top spot on the Senate health Committee, the lawmakers’ office confirmed to Inside Health Policy after Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) on Thursday (Nov. 17) announced he plans to take over as ranking member of the committee -- a leadership pairing that health policy experts say could help maintain the committee’s reputation for being highly functional and resemble the current dynamic between current committee Chair Patty Murray (D-WA), who is eyeing a top spot on the Senate Appropriations Committee, and ranking member Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), who is retiring at the end of the year.
