Without requiring a full-time dedicated infection preventionist in nursing homes, among other changes, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) says the infection control reforms HHS’ Office of Inspector General calls for in a new report will merely continue the status quo -- namely, that nearly a quarter of nursing homes nationwide, or nearly 2,580, will remain out of compliance with federal infectious disease requirements.
