Nursing homes are upset that CMS on Thursday (Oct. 6) rejected their request to extend through the public health emergency and beyond a pandemic waiver allowing facilities to employ temporary nurse aides for more than four months without certified nurse aid training. The agency instead approved waivers in 15 states, which last no longer than the end of the PHE, leaving nursing homes in some parts of the country without the ability to take advantage of the staffing flexibility.
