Michigan Legislature Won’t Suspend Medicaid Work Requirements

The Republican leaders of Michigan’s legislature on Tuesday (Dec. 3) rejected a call from the Democratic governor to suspend the state’s Medicaid work requirements in light of a new lawsuit challenging their legality. Michigan’s work requirements are scheduled to take effect Jan. 1. Under the policy, nearly a third of the state’s Medicaid expansion group may have to show they are working or engaging in work-related activities for at least 80 hours a month in order to retain coverage.
