Mental Health Facilities Lack Services For Deaf Patients, Study Finds

Around half of federally funded treatment centers for mental health and substance abuse disorders failed to provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services, a recent study found, violating federal laws that require accommodations for disabled patients. The study also found some facilities provide remote video interpreting services, which many deaf and hard of hearing patients report as less effective than an in-person interpreter.
