Congress’ Medicare advisors discussed whether CMS should seek authority from Congress to expand its durable medical equipment competitive bidding program -- potentially even beyond DME -- because the commission views the program as a success. The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association, however, warned the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission not to include custom orthotics and prosthetics in the bid program and the group’s representative said bidding should only be used for commodities.
