Maryland Looks To Reinsurance Waiver To Fix ACA Markets, Says Without Federal Action State Marketplace Will ‘Fall Apart’

Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer told Inside Health Policy that in the wake of Congressional inaction to stabilize the Obamacare marketplaces, the federal government needs to offer states relief from rising premiums or else state insurance markets will fall apart over the next year. Redmer also said that the Maryland effort to pass a state-level individual mandate failed to gain significant support, and the state now hopes to obtain more reinsurance funding via a 1332 waiver before the 2019...
