HHS To States: Use Emergency Powers To Expand Providers’ Scope

HHS asked governors in a letter Tuesday (March 24) to expand access to providers during the COVID-19 emergency by relaxing provider licensure and supervision requirements, and increasing liability protections. The letter, written by HHS Secretary Alex Azar, calls for allowing health professionals licensed or certified in one state to practice in other states either in-person or over telemedicine. Azar notes states could use mutual aid compacts or governors’ emergency powers to allow health care professionals to practice across state lines...
