Group Says Kidney Patients Should Be Allowed To Enroll In Medicare Advantage

Kidney doctors and patients are lobbying Congress to let patients enroll in Medicare Advantage after they start dialysis so they will benefit from the extra services and care coordination that MA plans provide. Doctors who form MA plans also would benefit from boosting enrollment. Patients who already are in the Medicare Advantage program may keep their coverage if they develop end-stage renal disease, but patients who don't enroll before their kidneys fail must remain in fee-for-service Medicare.
