In a speech to FDA staff on his first day as commissioner , Scott Gottlieb said his top priorities include crafting a plan to take “more forceful” steps to address the opioid crisis, which he pegged as the most immediate challenge facing the agency. Gottlieb also said FDA can increase access to affordable medications by helping bring more low-cost drug alternatives, such as complex drugs and biosimilars, to market and ensuring generic drug makers aren't “gamed” to delay competition.
