Gilead’s Remdesivir Becomes First FDA-Approved COVID-19 Treatment

FDA approved Gilead Science’s remdesivir therapeutic, Veklury, on Thursday (Oct. 22) for the treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients 12 years and older, making it the first fully FDA-approved treatment for the novel coronavirus in the United States. The agency had previously granted emergency use authorization for the antiviral. Also on Thursday FDA granted a new emergency use authorization for use of the drug in hospitalized pediatric patients under the age of 12. Gilead said the drug is now widely available...
