FDA Urges Shift To Disposable Duodenoscope Endcaps

FDA on Thursday (Aug. 29) urged industry and health care facilities to start using duodenoscopes with disposable endcaps, saying that fixed endcaps are too difficult to keep clean and therefore pose a threat to patients. The move is part of a broader effort by the agency to improve the cleanliness of duodenoscopes, which have provoked congressional scrutiny for routinely being contaminated with high-concern organisms like E. coli .
