FDA: New Authority Needed To Address Food Import Issues

FDA has told Congress it needs new authority to ensure imported food products are safe as the agency is investigating apple sauce pouches contaminated with lead and chromium, stating it does not currently have the ability to take action against ingredient suppliers who do not ship directly to the United States.
