FDA Advisers Recommend Updating COVID-19 Vaccines

FDA advisers on Tuesday (June 28) voted 19-2 in favor of updating coronavirus vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna to improve efficacy against the omicron strain, though they did not specify which substrain of omicron the vaccines should target. The government is preparing for a vaccine campaign to ward off what is expected to be an uptick in infections in the fall. The goal is to start making the updated vaccines available in August.
