CMS Works To Clear 1115 Waiver Backlog After Application Spike

Hawaii, Utah and Washington are the latest states to have their 1115 waivers approved as CMS continues working through a backlog of Medicaid waiver application and renewals fueled by a 69% bump in requests from 2020 to 2022 that led stakeholders last year to ask Congress to allocate additional funding to hire more CMS staff.
