CBO Finds Safe Step Act Costs $2B As Stakeholders Push Bill For Lame Duck

The Safe Step Act, a bipartisan, bicameral bill requiring employer plans to establish a clear exceptions process for medication step therapy, would boost access to prescribed drugs but would likely increase premiums for those plans while reducing federal revenue by $2 billion over a decade, according to Congressional Budget Office score out Thursday (Dec. 5).
