Califf Pushes Back On Sanders’ Idea For A Paxlovid Prescribing Hotline

FDA chief Robert Califf pushed back on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) proposal for a 1-800 hotline that would allow people infected with COVID-19 to get a prescription for Pfizer’s coronavirus therapy Paxlovid over the phone. Califf said he doesn’t think it’s a good idea to remove physicians from the prescribing process, but Centers for Disease Control and Prevention head Rochelle Walensky said she would support the hotline, with some patient screening requirements in place.
