AMA: DEA Shouldn’t Pull State PDMP Data For Telemed Investigations

Correction Appended American Medical Association President Jesse Ehrenfeld asserted the Drug Enforcement Administration should not be able to routinely draw data from state-maintained prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) in its attempt to prevent diversion of controlled substances amid expanded telemedicine prescribing. Ehrenfeld said the information is clinical in nature and therefore should not be accessed by DEA, which already has enough data to carry out its enforcement activities.
