Sens. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) introduced Thursday (Oct. 7) a bill to add nurses and physician assistants to CMS’ database on drug and medical device company payments to doctors and hospitals. Allan Coukell, Pew Charitable Trust senior director of health programs, said S. 2153 is needed because nurse practitioners and physician assistants account for 15 percent of prescriptions. “As with the Sunshine Act in 2010, this measure would help increase trust in our healthcare system,” Coukell said. -- John Wilkerson
