Hospitals Pleased With Bill Creating More Medicare-Supported Residencies

Lawmakers in both chambers re-introduced Thursday (April 30) the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act, which would add 15,000 Medicare-supported hospital residency positions over five years. Several provider groups support the legislation. The companion bills are sponsored by Reps. Joe Crowley (D-NY) and Charles Boustany (R-LA), and Sens. Bill Nelson (D-FL), Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Harry Reid (D-NV).
