FDA Would Scale Back Food Safety Activities If Government Shuts Down

FDA would have to scale back its food safety activities, such as inspections and enforcement actions, if the government shuts down this week, according to an HHS contingency plan . The plan comes shortly after Acting FDA Commissioner Stephen Ostroff pressed Senate appropriators to increase food safety funding, and a recent FDA Science Board report expressed concern about weaknesses in FDA's food program.
