The White House on Tuesday (Feb. 9) touted plans to increase funding for the National Institutes of Health in fiscal 2017, but that bump is contingent upon Congress approving mandatory funding for the agency, a move research advocates worry would not materialize on Capitol Hill. NIH in FY 2016 received $32.3 billion in appropriated funds, and while the president's FY 2017 request would increase the agency's overall funding to $33.1 billion, it would cut $1 billion from the discretionary baseline...
