W&M Health Chair Floats Major CMS Hospital Reforms, Including Short-Stay Pay Plan

House Ways & Means health subcommittee Chair Kevin Brady (R-TX) late Wednesday floated a broad-based legislative plan to dramatically overhaul CMS' payment and oversight of hospitals. Brady is asking for stakeholder feedback on proposals to create a Medicare hospital short-stay payment system, set up a voluntary settlement system for claims in the appeals backlog, institute changes to the Recovery Audit Contractors, and reverse the hospitals' two-midnights pay cut.
