MedPAC Takes On Short Hospital Stays, SNF Qualifying Stays, RAC Audits

Congress' Medicare payment advisers on Friday discussed different ways to pay for short hospital stays, though Medicare Payment Advisory Commission Chair Glenn Hackbarth also said it's unlikely that all of the policy problems surrounding short hospital stays would be solved by payment adjustments. Commissioners also discussed potential audit reform, potentially removing Medicare's three-day qualifying inpatient stay for covered nursing home care, and aligning the hospital rebilling policy and the Recovery Audit Contractor look-back period.
