CMS Adjusts MA, Part D Star Ratings To Account For Poor Beneficiaries

CMS officials proposed Friday (Feb. 20) a plan for changing star ratings to help Medicare Advantage plans that may be affected by serving a large population of poor beneficiaries. The agency plans to halve the weight of several star-rating measures that are not adjusted for socio-economic status while it researches whether dually eligible beneficiaries really do unfairly hurt plans' performance scores and, if so, how to fix the problem.
